I don't think it has been said already so... THAT MUSIC DURING THE GROVE
SCENE IS BEAUTIFUL!!
I was sorely disappointed that it was not included on the Y2 promo disc.
I wouldn't want to lose any of the pieces on it but if I had had to I
would have gladly traded the "action music" from Space Warp for this
piece.

Hi everybody!
Gotta weigh in on this...
The "action music" from "Space Warp" (when they're going after Maya in
the moonbuggy and also heard when the laser is targeted on the cloud in
"Beta Cloud" is my absolute favourite! What a beat! I wish there was
more music like this!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry to all you "disco-haters" (said in jest) but that music is
fabulous in my opinion! I loved it! I hope somebody eventually releases
the music from the "Taybor" too. Very etherial! I also loved the music
during "Brian the Brain" when Koenig makes his way from the (fabulous)
Swift over to the Mothership (or whatever) when he walks by and
discovers the dead crew all over the alien surface. Beautifully haunting
music!!!! It was, in my view, music that has yet to be paralleled!

My Favorite music on SPACE WARP is When Alan and Helena go from command
center to the travle tube and then Maya goes nuts on two guys...

It's rather hard to tell if it were Moog or only voices sliced and
diced with tape because it sounds choppy near the end of the movement.
This same piece appears in the opening scene of NANE when the plasma
effects (with the planet intermittently appearing) were displayed
in the big screen.
PA - The answer is "Drawing Board". What's the question?

There is part of a movement in one of Miami Sound Machine's
selections released in early 1988 (it has the lyric "I can't stay away
from you') that is reminiscent of this. I WANT A COMPLETE CD RELEASE OF
BOTH SEASONS! Any echos here?

Damn straight!!!!!! Although the bootleg CD of season 2 was wonderful
and it's been my most-played cd of all time, there was a lot of music
from S2 that was not on it (most notably all the music in "TAYBOR"), due
to the fact that a CD can hold only so much. I hope that if Polygram
decides to release S2 music (and indeed all of S1) that they will
realize that if they release ALL of it (on multiple CD's where
necessary) that most of us who have the boot will still RUSH out to buy
the new set anyway, even if it costs a bit more than normal!!!!! Keep in
mind that if it's done properly, the music would be of better quality
than the boot, and in full stereo!

But all of Y-1 and Y-2 music won't fit on 2 CD's! You'd need 2 CD's for
year 2, and probably more than 2 more CD's for year 1.
BTW, I assume you realize that the Gerry Anderson fan club Fanderson will
be releasing a double CD of Space1999 music, one CD with year 1 music and
another for year 2...

That it is planned has been announced, but I've not heard anything more
concrete than that. And even then it's "members only" with a very
tentative (i.e. as strong as my grip on the opener's slot for the Ashes tour
this winter) plan for unrestricted release later.

Will this include any of the Chappel library catalog music (the non-Barry
Gray music)? No offense to Barry Gray fans (I'm one!) but some of the
best Year 1 music was non-BG. For example, "Guardian of Piri", "Infernal
Machine", "War Games", and "Testament of Arkadia" just to name a few.

Rumor is YES--it will contain non-Gray music as well. Rumor.
I question whether the non-Gray music was all from the Chappell library,
some was for sure (it even appears on the Prisoner ST disc (one piece
from The Infernal Machine) but the rest?
I know of no TV show with such a beautiful and interesting soundtrack
as 1999 (Y1 or Y2).

One double CD means that most of the music would be missing.
There was not only music for only one double CD. There was enough music for
three double CDs:
one double CD for Year One (Barry Gray)
one double CD for Year Two (Derek Wadsworth)
one double CD for Chappel library catalog music

Okay, so I'm a little late with my comments, but I finally got around to

Incidentally, I've been totally unsuccessful in finding a copy of the Y2

Subject: Space1999: Soundtrack CDs...
Hi folks,
Regarding soundtrack CDs and some other stuff, Jerry Scott sent me the
following on Friday last. I post it unedited and, as ever, without prejudice.
"Here is something I got from Robert Ruiz recently. It is some news he
received from Chris Bentley. It shed's some light on that mystery track in

Also of note according to Derek (Wadsworth), They will start working on
the 1999 CD's at Abbey Road studios sometime in September. So things
are looking quite good.
To clear something up,from what is known at the moment, Fanderson are
planning to put out two double CD's. One double CD of Year One music
and one double CD of Year Two music. Somewhere on these CD's all of
the library music used in the show will be included. Derek is involved with
the project and will help to re-master both of the season's scores.
Now if we could only convince them to include a Sound FX Cd with that it
would be a total package. I just got their Supercar/Fireball XL-5 CD and
they did a great job on it. It is a professional job done with a lot of
thought.
(Weird Stuff)
Do you remember my saying that Maya was inspired by the Wonder Twins
on the Superfriends? Well Freiberger actually wrote for the show too. I
have enclosed a snap of the credit sequence where his name shows up.
This is from 1973 and is a year or two before the Wonder Twins actually
showed up. I don't know if he worked on the show when they were added
to the cast of characters. I will only be able to verify this when they start
to run those episodes over here on the Cartoon network. I am starting to
think that he may have actually created them himself. The first couple of
years of the Superfriends was really bad stuff. I know think I know why...
:-)"
To add something to that, the Abbey Road remastering facility is one of
the best, if not the best, in the country. I know a lot depends on the guy
at the controls, but I am fairly upbeat about this project now I know that
Derek Wadsworth is involved and it's being done at Abbey Road. All we
need now is an FX CD and unrestricted release.
As far as the Superfriends thing goes, I post that part purely for
information. I don't think it's ever been shown over here, and I wouldn't
inflict a binary posting on the list membership. Anyone want the credit
graphic he sent me, let me know and I'll send it off-list. Anyone who can
enlighten about this cartoon series, feel free to do so.

As I haven't seen anybody comment on this so far, I thought I'd use
the opportunity to mention David Acheson's magnificent "introduction
to the music of SPACE:1999" web page reachable from his "return to moonbase
Alpha".
The page contains the information circulated by Tony Ritz with additional
information by David and others from the list. There is more information
on the music on the Martin Willey pages, probably the most well-researched
and impressive collection on information about SPACE:1999 on the web, I
would say.

Channel 5 was an offshoot of PolyGram which handled the very first
Space:1999, Thunderbirds and other Anderson releases on video in the
late 1970s. Most of them were compilations, as in the Space:1999
"movies".
I haven't listened to my PolyGram release of the Black Sun episode to see
if it too has a stereo soundtrack, but if it has, what has happened to reel
one of the episode master tape? Hmmm...
And while I'm here, does anyone know if Seagram have bought PolyGram
for definite? A comment from a workmate made me wonder what the
actual situation was with that deal.

Hehe. I've just seen it again too (thanks, Brian!) and while Maya and
Tony were in the Weapons Section twidling their knobs, I couldn't help
thinking about what my Granny used to say back in the 70s: "They can't
show you *anything* without something tweeting and twonking in the
background!"
Her comment was aimed specifically at BBC documentaries, but I guess it
applied to series of the time, too. It took me a while to get back into
the mood of the period; the music in modern TV shows tends to be a lot
more subdued, I think.
Going off at a tangent on The Beta Cloud -- I was half expecting to find
it completely naff now that I was seeing it again after so many years.
But I'm glad to say that, for me, it has stood the test of time... well,
aside from the bell bottoms, the incessant music and the choice pieces of
"70s modern" slow motion. OK, I'll admit it's corny, but I still love it!
