The only issue that had second season characters was # 7 I think and then the comic was cancelled. This is only from the small comic not the bigger one with black and white drawings. Although I do remember seeing the magazine size comic with Maya on the cover or am I dreaming? Phil M Currently reading: Contact by Carl Sagan

The Metamorph is retold in one of the comics featuring Maya on the cover. She also appears in several others. Don't get too excited. I have all the Charlton Space: 1999 comics and the magazines and they are downright lame. I bought them, looked at them, put them away, and have never had any desire to take them out again.
From: djlerda@juno4tag.com Subject: Space1999: Maya Comic Date: Sun, 14 Jun 1998 15:07:15 EDT I had a few of the comics (B&W and color). The B&W ones weren't bad but you're right about the color comics. There was one exception. I believe the title of the story was "Demon Star" and concerned Alpha drifting near the eclipsing binary star Algol. When the stars eclipsed the inhabitants would change from a peaceful, benevolent people to a warlike race and attack Alpha. I remember liking it because the writer had done his homework (there really is an eclipsing binary star called Algol), the artwork was pretty good compared to the other comics, and the story was pretty good. There was an inaccuracy (Alpha had Hawks to use in defense against the alien attack) but overall this particular issue was above the other comics. The art was done by John Byrne (not the Year 1 writer). This John Byrne would later become a noted comic book artist and go on to do Superman for D.C. Comics. I think he also did some titles for Marvel but I'm not sure. David J Lerda

The interior of an Eagle in one is Tony Cellini's ship from "Dragon's Domain" and the pilot is even wearing Tony's headphones. Another shows an Alphan talking from the picture ID card on the side, rather than the viewscreen on top. This kind of thing is the only value in the comics as far as I'm concerned -- just a mild amusement and then something to put back in the box for 20 years.

I think I bought those back in 1982 or so from a comic book guy who would hang out at the 7 -11 where I worked when I was going through college. (12-8am shift! guess who gets to butter all those bagels!) Anyway he would hang out to try to get 7-11 sports premiums from me (From slurpee cups etc) and would sell me bunches of comics. I was just then putting my collection back together again because my mother sold off my comics in 1976 (Giant size X-Men #1 bought at cover price!!!!) I had a soft spot for 1999 then that story, but mostly the cover really stuck in my mind. Someone recently posted that a good place to start a 1999 revival would be inthe comics. I agree as long as it was done close to the spirit of the show. The recent Battlestar Galactica comics are very dissapointing to me although the artwork is very nice. I remember Bill Mumy's Lost In SPace comic and I thought that was very well done considering the source material. A great 1999 comic would pick up right where the Testament of Arkadia left off.

The image of the interior launch bay under attack shows the Kaldorian ship STILL THERE!! The irony of Simmonds death now even more cruel!! Mateo
