Subject: Re: Alpha windows that open on The Last Sunset???

I have a question for all Alphans:

I was watching the eppisode The Last Sunset and I thought that it was pretty
strange that Alpha would have windows that open? When in the heck for? That
was that part when John & Helena were talking about drafts. Now, I ask you,
how could that window be opened??

Windows in space, perhaps they were planning to create an atmosphere for Alpha. OR maybe the writer was trying to introduce some comedy under the table. I remember a movie called "Spaceman" in which everyone went outside and commenced to karate chop each other, it was one of the funniest sights I have ever seen.

A few weeks ago, Terry Bowers, a longtime S1999 fan and a currently unsubscribed member of this mailing list, revealed more about the window-opening scene in "The Last Sunset". Here's the text of her reply: >Hi All. > > First, the opening window in Main Mission in "The Last Sunset". >There was supposed to have been a scene in which we saw a tech installing >the "opening window" as per koenig's order after the atmosphere arrived on >the moon, but of course that never made it to the final cut, so we were left >with continuity problems and wondering where it came from! -- Terry Bowers >(Susan.M.Bowers@uwrf.edu)

The correct URL IS Http://W3.One.Net/~hriley/ Try this, as the few who attempted variations of my former addresses found that I had incorrectly given the URL....... My thanks to everyone that checked the MIDIs for downloading. On to the window thing..... In the book rendition of this story ( I forget which one,) it is stated that Cmdr Koenig DID 'order' the installation of the windows. I agree that this was meant to be an assumption on the part of the viewers that the windows were installed AFTER it had been deemed safe. After all, the entire story is set over three or more days, I believe. Anyhow..... Later. HinesR

Gumbinger" (jcg@vh44.net) Subject: Return, One Moment After getting bounced off the list twice (why I don't know,) this is my third attempt to stay on and enjoy the conversation. I asked in December about why they had to double film four times during year 2 to meet a September premier date when they had at least six months more than shows in America get. If that generated any responses, I didnot get them. If anybody has any, please forward them to me. New topic: I found it interesting to read here that "Last Sunset" had a scene written in where Koenig ordered a sliding window put into main mission, but that it was dropped before filming (or was filmed and got left on the ol' cutting room floor.) I never wondered about that...I always assumed that the window was put in when they knew the atmosphere was safe, and at the end you see them standing at that same window, and it is clear that it is back to the space-proof viewport. Saying that, I just watched the laser disc episode of "One Moment of Humanity," and there are two or three awkward cuts in the episode that make me think the scenes were longer, and were trimmed to make the episode time out correctly. I would be most interested in any info anybody has on that, as well as on any other episode writing or filming cuts. Thanks John
