I think it would be interesting to do again, as it seems the favorite/worsts in each varies with the makeup of this group, which changes every few months (okay, I could have worded that better, but what I can I say - it's Friday). We could even expand into other categories Other suggestions: Best Eagle crashBest alien Worst costumed alien Worst continuity scene Best death scene Worst death scene I would be happy to vote - but due to time and my own procastination, Simone will you coordinate! If you are willing - we could send you categories, and then you can place the ballot for us to answer to. Good luck! Jeanette
Date: Mon, 8 Apr 1996 17:11:46 -0700 From: Ronald Dudley (dudleyrd@expert.cc.purdue4tag.edu) Jeanette, Simone, et al.: My probably worthless suggestions for other catagories: Best/worst fight scene Best/worst guest star Best/worst spaceship Most unusual location/part of Alpha or the Moon Dumbest/Coolest looking alien planet landscape/setting Dumbest/Coolest creature Maya ever turned into Best/worst idea of the original format, as devised by G&S Anderson. Best/worst change Fred Freiberger made. Worst case of plagarism in any episode. (I hereby nominate "Immunity Syndrome", a title from a Star Trek episode) Most outdated aspect of the show, not counting the out-of-date dates: "1999" Most futuristic (not yet outdated) aspect of the show. Dumbest thing Tony ever did that demonstrates why he's not fit to be second in command. (My nomination: Beta Cloud, when, after trapping the creature in a vacuum chamber, Tony then opens it up to check to see if the creature is dead yet thereby letting it back out. Real smart Tony.) Character I would most liked to have been. (Mad dictator John Koenig!) Character I would least liked to have been. (3 way tie: Darian midget, A Reveared One (Rowland's Test subjects), Yasko) Props from the show that I would most like to have (My favorite: Balor's terror paintings!) Now for the really scary thought - those shoes are coming back into style! Yikes, cross those fingers!!!! Hmmm, wonder if I can sell the ones my mother probably has in the store room for fashionable antiques. I'll stick to my LA gear tennis shoes!

Fortunately, they went out of fashion at the end of the 70s. And I was too young. But a couple of years ago, while browsing through Cosmo (a very enlightening magazine, may I add... ;-) ;-) ;-) ), there it was again! I swore I would not fall prey to those thick soled ugly things. But... I bought one pair. Just for kicks. And, yes, they were on sale, if you have to know. It feels almost as walking on the moon, when I have them on. How's that for an Alphan, huh? :-) Have a nice evening in your timeframe! Daphne, the obnoxious lawyer type from Planet Canada (a scary place according to Russian authorities...)

Date: Wed, 10 Apr 1996 05:54:01 -0700 From: Ronald Dudley (dudleyrd@expert.cc.purdue4tag.edu) On DS9, Major Kira also wears some enormous heels. Nana Visitor is such a short and skinny girl, that they have to pump her up so as to seem more commanding, and worthy of being a major. I really doubt that any military would issue such footware that would be impractically clumsy for running, or any other type of combat (and there have been episodes in which they did lots of running, climbing, etc), unless it were psychological warefare. The Bajorans must been hoping if their women-in-combat seem taller, they will seem more threatening, and hoping that the enemy doesn't notice the stilts she's wearing. Her shoulders are padded too! I noticed this in last week's "Lesbian" episode, where Kira and Julian discuss why people would repress love between Dax and her former wife. Even with enormous booster heels, Nana is still the shortest of the cast, barely eye-to-eye with that little troll Quark.
Date: Wed, 10 Apr 1996 13:27:46 -0700 From: Patricia Sokol (sokolp@war.wyeth4tag.com) Hi all, It seems that either the list has gotten quiet today, or else my e-mail system is on the fritz again. So.... I was thinking about Simone's suggestions for Space:1999 awards, and it got me thinking about good scenes that may or may not be in favorite episodes. One scene that I find pretty amusing is in "Journey to Where". Overall, a good episode, I think, because the characters seem fairly relaxed and comfortable (Alan singing, etc). The scene that comes to mind is where Helena is checking her monitor to find out if her fever is increasing. Koenig tries to look over her shoulder and she scowls and turns away, leaving him looking annoyed and frustrated. It seems true-to-life and even maybe ad-libbed. Anybody else....? -PTS.

Major Kira and Balor may have MEGA heels, but did anybody notice Maya in "The Rules of Luton" -- basic, run of the mill, 1970's non-descript off-white TENNIS SHOES for all that climbing about Hyde Park! And what about those cheapie brown shoes for all the extras on Alpha during the first season (and possibly the second as well)? Robert
