Subject: Space1999: More random questions...

Hello all

As I've been writing my DS9 crossover (coming on nicely), some questions
have popped into my mind concerning various aspects of Space:1999.

Following my question a couple of weeks ago about Sandra, I was wondering
if there was any information or speculation about the backgrounds of
people like Alibe or Yasko (not major parts, I know, but they've turned
out quite useful in my story for some weird reason).

I haven't found that much info about the main characters either, btw. The
Cybrary lists Tony's full name as Anthony Dean Verdeschi, which made me
wonder if he is actually supposed to be from Italy or simply a Briton of
Italian descent (never seen him in English yet, so I'm guessing). Anyway,
if any kind soul has back stories for Koenig, Russell, Maya, Carter and
Verdeschi to offer, I'd be interested to know. Otherwise, I'll just have
to make it up. :)

Also on the subject of idle speculation, I've been looking through the
mailing-list archives and I found some fascinating things. I see someone
suggested that Tony might have gone out with Sandra after Paul
disappeared (or even before - maybe the Alphans are broadminded ). So
basically, Sandra's probably gone out with her fiancé from BoW, the guy
from Black Sun, Paul, Alan and Tony. Gets around, I guess. But what of
the other characters? Anybody have theories about who Kano might have
gone out with? Or Tanya? Or Yasko? Or Alibe? I'm sure you've been through
this before... but I haven't! ;)

Something else struck me while looking over the list of everyone who was
killed in Season 1 (is there a list like that for Y2?). Following this
trend of Eagle pilots and security guys getting zapped, I would estimate
that after a few years, Alpha would have a serious imbalance in the
female to male ratio. It doesn't look as if they had significantly more
men than women on the base to start off with. Maybe after a while, Tony's
"security guards" would have to be the babes in Solarium!

Hmm. Five paragraphs and I managed to mention Tony in three of them: eek!
could there be a trend developing here?

May- er, Emma ;)

From his accent I always wondered about that myself. But since he has a brother named Guido, I guess he's supposed to be from Italy. Or his parents could be first generation immigrants and named their children with Italian names. Is the Moonbase Alpha Technical Notebook online? It had background information on the characters. >So basically, Sandra's probably gone out with her fiancé from BoW, the >guy from Black Sun, Paul, Alan and Tony. Gets around, I guess. Yes, Sandra appears to be what we guys call "a great date." :-) >Anybody have theories about who Kano might have >gone out with? Or Tanya? Or Yasko? Or Alibe? In "Black Sun", Tanya stops off at Paul's quarters as they are all awaiting the end. Whether this indicated any prior relationship or she just didn't want to be alone when "the end" came, could be grist for speculation. She seems to enjoy Alan's company in "The Last Sunset." Hope this helps.

Which Doctor and companion are you using? I'm using Sylvester McCoy and Ace - my favourite Doctor. I planned originally for Jon Pertwee and Jo Grant, then it became Colin Baker and Mel (oh Bonnie! Bonnie! Bonnie! it nearly broke my heart when I decided not to write for you...), but it felt right using Sylvester McCoy. L8er (turns up the Black Sabbath and disappears from view),

Wasn't that in one of the episodes? I remember seeing it when Helena pulled his records up on a monitor, and he was acting insane? Tom

Thank you all for your help: this is great! >Check the cybrary. I think there's some info about them there. I did. There *is* some info, but I was wondering if there was any more. If there isn't, then I'll be happy to make some up. Just a question: the last time I saw Y2, everyone was speaking French ;), so I've been wondering -- What kind of accent do Alibe and Yasko have? American or British? (I gather Yasko has a Japanese accent, but where did she learn her English?) >From his accent I always wondered about that myself. But since he has a >brother named Guido, I guess he's supposed to be from Italy. Hmm. I still think Anthony Dean is a silly name for an Italian, but I'll see how I can fit that into the story. Mind you, every second guy in Britain is called Tony these days; maybe he decided Anthony would go down better at Cambridge than Antonio. >Yes, Sandra appears to be what we guys call "a great date." :-) Teehee. Who would have thought it of a twee little thing that screams at every opportunity? ;) >In "Black Sun", Tanya stops off at Paul's quarters as they are all >awaiting the end. Whether this indicated any prior relationship or she >just didn't want to be alone when "the end" came, could be grist for >speculation. She seems to enjoy Alan's company in "The Last Sunset." I think Alan would be a bit concerned that he was getting all Paul's rejects. :D >Do you know The Immunity Snydrom ? I saw it many years ago, but I don't have the episode at hand (I'm praying the Beeb will get that far some day). >Graduated B.A. Hons >University of Rome 1990 >PH.D. Cambridge England 1993 >Comissioned This is interesting. Who said Tony was completely stupid? Any suggestions as to what capacity he might have joined MBA in originally? Doesn't sound like he had the background for a purple-sleeve. Anyway, moving on... A semi-private note now: have any of my proof-readers here actually received part 4 of my story? You've all been very quiet about it... :) Emma
