EDITOR'S NOTE: Spin-off of (i.e. originated from) the massive Episode by Episode 'Breakaway' thread.

From: David Acheson (dkach@hotmail44.com) Subject: Space1999: Ben Ouma Date: Fri, 05 Dec 1997 18:28:07 PST Yes I have often wondered whatever happened to our good friend Ouma. I do believe he survived the Breakaway disaster as most of the people on the base did but we never got to see him again. So if he survived he must have been reassigned and David Kano was assigned to his position. Fine. So where did Ouma go? Let me suggest the same mysterious department that the following went to: Victor Bergman, Paul Morrow, David Kano eventually, Annette Fraser, Tanya Alexander, Bob Mathias, Yasko Nagumi, Doctor Ben Vincent and Sandra Benes. Boy, Alphans keep disappearing and no one seems to miss them. Except the viewers that is.

He was quite funny in many ways. For a start, he seemed to love "computer" just as much Scotty loved the engines on the Enterpise (sorry to mention Brand X). Anyway, Kano's character provided some much needed comic relief. Don't you think? Quintin Vista, CA, USA

Computer can't read much of this data; there's too much interference. 3. Computer never tells stories. 4. Naturally. 5. I swore I'd never go through this again. Can anyone guess which episode each one belongs to? I just watched Breakaway intensely this morning and I still can't see Steiner's Space Helmet pop open. Concurring on the absence of Ouma and the presence of Kano, I think they made a good choice also, however, I liked Ouma's accent. Certainly missed is Tanya Alexander. She is not in too many episodes, but boy is she beautiful. I liked when she played tennis with Alan in "The Last Sunset." Any idea where she's at today? It seems as though many of us are picking the episodes apart. I prefer to see more analysis of the story-line and characters. However, with all the knowleged people I see on the list, I think we're in store for a Space:1999 bloopers video.

Let me suggest the same mysterious > department that the following went to: Its the Alpha Rec Section they went to- after all the stress of command center and main mission they all cracked, and now tend bar. Victor is the old salty bartender who dispenses philosophical ale along with the regular brew. Paul Morrow is the high strung barkeep, who's always sure someone is hitting on his girl- Sandra Benes- she does this little stage number in a leopard skin outfit she picked up along the way. Ouma and Kano are the two who always keep to themselves- and play checkers in the corner, sharing stories about the cerebral babe that got away. Annette Fraser is a drunk burnout with too much eye makeup from all the stress due to the precarious situations her hubby got into, Tanya Alexandre is the hot hostess with the exotic accent. Yasko Nagumi is not allowed to have any alcohol, as once her speech begins to slur, she is so incomprehensible everyone thinks she's an Alien. Bob Mathias is around to fix the broken beer taps, they break a lot, especially when hot headed Paul Morrow has been slamming them down during his shift. And Ben Vincent usually is called from behind the bar to help out the customer who becomes ill from trying, you guessed it, Verdeschi's Crater Ale on microbrew night! Later Crater, -Mark

As well as giving me a real good laugh, I got the feeling that this has potential for a mini series of its own. I can picture Paul trying to knock Dave O'Reilly's head off after he made a move on Sandra, failing, and giving him Verdeschi's latest as revenge instead. Our Dave ends up trying it on with Tanya, but finds himself on the wrong end of Alan Carter's fist, our hero pilot coming down to look for volunteers to be co-pilot on the next recon trip. Or maybe... Alpha gets taken over by blobby BEMs, who overlook Bob and some hitherto unknown female extra. Upon asking "Who are you?" of Bob, she hears the reply "I'm just a cook. A lowly cook".... Any talented cartoonist amongst us? This could become something of a comic strip...
