Subject: 2 EPISODES NEVER SEEN!!!!!!!!!!

Hi to all from me!

It's probably you already know that I'm going to tell you, but I have never
noted anyone who talked about this, in the mailing list.

I'm a member of the "COSMOS: 1999" fan club (French fan club), and from 28
to 29 October 1995 the french club organized the Cosmos convention in Lyon.
They invited: Zienia Merton, Anthon Phillips, Prentis Hancock and Johnny Byrne!
I didn't go to Lyon, but I could read from "Eagle 30" those days were great!
And I could read that Johnny talked about two episodes never filmed!

These episodes are: "Biological spirit", and "The children of Gods".
(I have translate them form the french titles, "L'esprit bilogique" and
"Les enfants des dieux")

These episodes were written before the second season started, and when
Freddie Freiberger arrived in Pinewood read the stories of these episodes
but he didn't like them.
That is beacuse Freddie had an idea about the second season, that is to say
Maya.
Therefore the two episode were rejected by Freddie, but Johnny didn't like
this decision. So "Biological Spirit" became "The metamorph", and "The
children of Gods" had buried.
Johnny liked "The children...." very much and in his opinion it was the
greatest episode of Space:1999. He still remember something about the story
and he tried to talk about it at the french convention
Johnny wrote it thinking like an episode which concluded a season (in that
case, the second season).

In Moonbase Alpha, some terrible facts happen, and the alphans discover the
cause of those events: two childs!
The children hold the alphans in their power and an extra-terrestrial is
near to them in Alpha and he leaves the children to do all that they want,
also kill some alphans!
Sandra had a great part in this episode because the children hold her as an
hostage.
The alphans discover that the children and the extra-terrestrial come from
future. After, the alphans also discover the children are terrestrial and
they're the discendants of the alphans. The children have been sequestrated
to some extra-terrestrials which gave them fantastic powers and capacity to
destruction, modifing their mind.
The extra-terrestrial and the children are in contanct in the future and the
alphans can see their future on another planet where they can live, have
children and develop a new terrestrial civilizzation.

In my opinion "The children of Gods" was a great episode and wiht a grteat
impact, I don't understand how Freddie can have rejected it, it could be a
great episode also with Maya.

What's more, Prentis, Anthon, and Zienia would be ready to film a third
season of Space:1999 if someone ask to them to do it. Also some hooking
episodes with the old seasons to introduce new personages and new stories.

Well, I hope you can understand my BAD english, and sorry for the errors.

CIAO, Simone.
(PS: I have some photo from the french convention, I f you're interested in
receive them in JPG format in UUCODE, please let me know)

Gosh, I would be surprised if he had accepted it. I mean, there was a good story behind it and no bug-eyed rubber monsters in the script. Amardeep

Not that I want to defend FF (the Great Satan) or anything, but perhaps he recognised a similar storyline from STOS - I haven't got access to my reference books but wasn't there an episode where an aparently omnipotent being (a Brit actor dressed in a sort of cosmic Kaftan as I recall) used children to wreak havoc on the Enterprise ?

The episode that was mentionned in one of last night's posts was most probably "Miri". It includes children but the story have few similarities with Johnny Byrne's storyline. In that particular episode, the children were cruel and remorseless (that is, until Kirk showed them that their parents were dead 300 years before!!!! ;-) ) but they were merely acting like children, unguided by anyone. Actually, I did enjoy that episode pretty much. True, it's not comparable to, say, City on The Edge of Forever, but it stands as one of the underestimated jewels of STOS season 2. Now it's really a pity that Children of the Gods was not filmed. It would have been the finale everyone wished for... Or the beginning? Johnny Byrne himself was on the list last summer and it was a privilege to hear him talk about it and other subjects related to 1999. Hope he'll come back for brief visits again! Good morning, Alphans, wherever you are! Daphne PS: About BB and her acting abilities... I really enjoy being debucted so cleverly by Ronald. Unfortunately, I watched Matter of Life And Death again the other day and... he is right!!!!! Helena WAS acting strangely for someone who just found her long lost husband in the middle of nowhere. In outer space, for crying out loud! Hum, gotta freshen up my 1999 tapes! Time for another 1999 marathon... ;-) ;-) ;-)
Date: Thu, 28 Mar 1996 06:27:30 -0800 From: Ronald Dudley (dudleyrd@expert.cc.purdue4tag.edu) Good Morning Daphne I am glad that we are in agreement. I blame the writers, not BB. BB had a better time in "One Moment of Humanity", in which a freaking robot made better love to her than anybody else! Also consider these ST-OS: "And the Children shall Lead" kids under the influence of Gorgon the Angle of Light take over the Enterprise. "Charlie X" was not a nice teenager. Kirk considered killing his nephew in "Operation Annihilate" because the kid carried the plague of those flying pancake blobs. A street urchin showed Kirk and Spock how to break into a gangster stronghold in exchange for "A Piece of the Action" Baylock from "Corbomite Maneuver" who threatened to destroy the Enterprise was also played by a kid. (The actor also played a deranged adult in the DS9 episode in which Sisko, Bashir, and Dax timetraveled to 21st century San Francisco. He had their com badges.) Was ST anti-child, or what?

Hi Carol: If this is the episode I'm thinking of, the "angel" or "gorgon" or whatever he was called was not a British actor but was actually played by famous San Francisco attorney/author Melvin Belli, and one of the children was his son, Caesar. Mel had connections I guess, and I think because Caesar liked the show as a child in the 1960s they somehow ended up on it. Mel's 86 or so now and still around and making headlines in San Francisco. His marital and financial problems have kept us all entertained since the late 1980s. He's also the inventor of San Francisco's "Hangtown Fry," a kind of disgusting (but actually tasty) concoction involving eggs and oysters. Was that episode called "And the Children Shall Lead" or something? Robert Ruiz (San Franciscan)

I only remembered that there was something 'unusual' about the actor insofar as he wasn't run-of-the-mill Central casting material. Anyway he sounds a darn sight more interesting than a bog-standard Brit San Franciscan huh ? You lucky thing! Carol

CIAO alfani (Hello Alfans, in Italian) I've continued to read the "Aigle 30", the french magazine where I read about "Children of Gods". Some French guys at the end of the convenction ask to Johnny Byrne: "What would you like to do now?" He answers: "Well, perhaps the moment to start a new season about Space 1999" can be arrived, but I'd love to do my season. Today I would like to do some new episode with great special effects, and the cost for that would be very cheap today, compared with those of 20 years ago" CIAO, Simone.

Nope. "And The Children Shall Lead" or something. ST, and _especially_ TOS and TNG, had a lot of kiddie episodes. > episode, the children were cruel and remorseless (that is, until Kirk Not really. Just misguided, like Helena's operating procedures... :-) > Actually, I did enjoy that episode pretty much. True, it's not > comparable to, say, City on The Edge of Forever, I'll say. Too bad they couldn't get Harlan Ellison for the second season of Space:1999. :-[ > of the underestimated jewels of STOS season 2. The actor who played the evil alien was quite good. Not as good as Bowles' Balor, but still good. > Good morning, Alphans, wherever you are! Well, I'm at - no... wait... don't... I was just JOKING. [Aargh] > Life And Death again the other day and... he is right!!!!! Helena > WAS acting strangely for someone who just found her long lost husband > in the middle of nowhere. In outer space, for crying out loud! Actually, in those conditions, my reaction would be a litle more extreme. Phasers on stun 'till he's down, then interrogate him in a secure area. > Hum, gotta > freshen up my 1999 tapes! Time for another 1999 marathon... ;-) ;-) ;-) Don't have the time... I'm too busy with Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future. BTW, why hasn't anyone commented on Martin Landau's appearance at the oscars?
