They never mentioned his disappearance from season 2 in the show at
all. There are a few references to his death in a novelization I believe.
But don't quote me on that. It would have been a nice touch to add a line or
2 in the Season 2 opener to let us know. Hell, soaps do it all the time,
"....the part of Blah Blah is now being played by Blah Blah....". But then
again, that would have made sence, and add to the continuity, and we can't
have that now, could we???? :-)

Later...

"The Making of Space:1999" lists a series of lines that was cut out of the original draft of "The Metamorph", originally titled "Biological Soul." In it, Simon Hays (the character who was originally to have been Tony) is talking to Sandra. Simon says (almost to himself) "I wish Bergman was here." SANDRA (nods): But he isn't. SIMON: One lousy space suit with a faulty helmet and Victor had to be in it. SANDRA (gently): We can't bring him back, Simon. Hope this helps! Geo

At this point, Tony Anholt's character was called "Simon Hays." To quote from pages 104-105: For example, it was only on the blue pages that reference was made to the disappearance of Bergman, when in Scene 146 Simon says (almost to himself) "I wish Bergman was here."
